Frank Meadow Sutcliffe (1853 – 1941)

A nationally and internationally acclaimed pioneering photographer who helped to develop photography as an art form as distinct from a purely recording medium. Sutcliffe worked in Whitby from the mid-1870s until his death. His photographs truly capture the atmosphere of Whitby and its surrounding area; not only the landscapes but the people and their work.

Whitby Museum owns the full collection of F M Sutcliffe’s original glass plate negatives and also their fully enhanced versions from which these prints are taken. See also our range of stationery and greetings cards featuring Sutcliffe's images.

Please note that all photographic prints in this section are despatched direct from our printer and are subject to a separate shipping charge.
