The chart measures 136 stitches wide by 150 stitches high. The pattern is stitched in cross stitch, 4-sided stitch, a small amount of back stitch, and a couple of french knots. It is suitable for linen and aida.
This traditional sampler of an alphabet , numbers and decorative motifs is stitched in wool on cotton fabric. It measures 230mm wide by 280mm high. Ruths surname is unclear, but looks to be Hall, so it has been charted this way. Ruth stitched her sampler when she was 14, but sadly other than this we have no further details about her. The inscription reads ' modest virtue it is said, to be the beauty of a maid'.
Due to thread loss, this is not a true reproduction but a close copy.
